Bill wanted to tell us about himself. He wanted us to know him better and remember him. The book he would write was to be bound and given to each of us at his memorial service.

This would be difficult under any conditions and, in spite of help from Jeannie and Maureen, Bill didn't get to tell us how he saw his life. That leaves knowing and remembering up to us. We have to tell it ourselves, fragment by fragment, in the best way we can.
